Part-time English Language Learner Teacher at President Thomas Jefferson Elementary April 2014- May 2014
Skills Learned: How to accommodate to the needs of students and their skill level both individually and within a classroom. I also learned how to co-teach and adapt to other teachers and their styles of instruction. It was also through this experience that I was truly able to see the efforts of encouragement a teacher can inspire in their students and vise-versa.
On-call teacher at The Hawaii English Academy February 2014- March 2014
Skills learned: How to be flexible in scheduling, along with the importance of appealing to students’ specific needs.
Pronunciation tutor Spring 2013
Skills learned: How to assess a students needs and develop relevant materials. I created a plethora of PowerPoints explaining and exemplifying difficulties in English pronunciation, which engaged my tutee and also provided supple practice.
Part-time English Language Learner Teacher at President Thomas Jefferson Elementary April 2014- May 2014
- Taught English to the elementary students that spoke English as a second language via pull-out instruction and classroom inclusion 5 days a week between the hours of 9:30am and 12:45pm
- Depending on the time of day pull-out classes consisted of a either kindergarteners or grades 1-5. After a daily group class introduction that included 1st through 5th graders, I instructed the 4th grade students based on their respective levels and their classroom studies.
- Along with the instructor of the ELL program, helped leading kindergartner students through lesson often using song and rhyme. On occasion the students were prompted to write in journals where I then assisted with spelling and simple sentence structure.
- Assisted classroom teachers for kindergartens, 1st graders, and 2nd graders, depending on the time of day and day of the week.

- Help with after school ELL computer program instruction every Wednesday for two hours. At times assisted students with reading assessments that correlated with their assigned computer program.
- ELL Teacher’s assistant for three class periods on Friday mornings for students whose grade levels were 1, 2, and 5. Tasks ranged from quizzing students on their sight words, classroom management, to worksheet assistance.
